Whenever The Pokémon Company hits a decade milestone, the hobby braces for impact. We saw it in 2016 with the 20th Anniversary Generations and Evolutions sets, and again in 2021 with the nostalgia-heavy 25th Anniversary Celebrations. Now, the 30th Anniversary release has officially arrived, bringing a mix of ultra-rare Secret Rares, high-concept “Futuristic” rarities, and classic reprints.

As with any major anniversary release, initial secondary market prices have been wild. Now that the set is out and initial opening waves have settled, here is a breakdown of the most valuable cards from the set, the current market prices, and a crucial lesson in pre-release hype.

Pricing based on a combination of  TCGPlayer.com, 130point.com and eBay.

The Golden Rule of Anniversary Sets: Beware the “FOMO Tax”

Before diving into the top cards, collectors need to look at Sylveon ex #153/128 (Special Illustration Rare).
During the pre-release window a month before the set hit shelves, early copies leaked onto eBay. Driven by intense FOMO, bidders pushed this Sylveon to astronomical heights:
  • August 17, 2026: A raw copy sold at auction for a staggering $3,225.00 (47 bids).
  • August 23, 2026: A week later, another sold for $1,775.00.
  • September 11, 2026: A raw Near Mint copy sold for $280.00.

Paying $3,200 for a card that drops to under $300 in less than 30 days is a brutal lesson. Pre-release prices almost never hold once booster packs flood the market, always wait for supply to normalize before buying top chase singles.

You also risk ending up getting dragged like this creator did for buying and opening a 30th Anniversary UPC boxes months before their actual release.

Honorable Mention: 2026 Charmander 30th Anniversary Promo #038 (BGS Black Label 10)

Source: 130Point.com
  • Sale Price: $7,632.32 (Goldin Auctions, July 2026)
Why It’s Here:
This Charmander First Partner Illustration card was originally distributed as an easily accessible promo pack card, with raw copies readily available for well under $100. However, a copy submitted to Beckett returned a sub-grade card with perfect 10s across Centering, Corners, Edges, and Surface, earning the legendary BGS Pristine Black Label 10.
Because the 30th Anniversary set is so new, major grading turnaround times mean slabbed pop reports for the core set don’t really exist yet. This Black Label Charmander serves as a preview of the insane premiums collectors will pay once the first wave of PSA 10s and BGS 10s return from grading companies in the coming months.

Don’t Panic If Shelves Are Empty

While this set may be incredibly hard to find right now, remember that Pokémon’s simultaneous global launch means this release is engineered to maximize supply. In fact, it is most likely going to be one of the most printed sets of all time. If you don’t find it at stores this weekend, don’t give up—and definitely don’t pay scalper prices. Be patient, let the supply hit the market, and the packs will be there.
