This morning at the 2026 National Sports Collectors Convention, Fanatics Collect announced a policy change targeting one of the marketplace’s primary friction points: seller fees. Under the “FanCash Payouts” program, the platform is waiving its standard 6% to 12% seller transaction fee on Buy Now and Auction sales for users who agree to receive their payout in FanCash.
With industry-average seller fees hovering around 13%, the strategy seeks to keep transaction volume locked inside the broader Fanatics network by eliminating cash-out processing costs.
Program Mechanics
-
Zero Transaction Fees: Sellers who select the FanCash payout option prior to listing receive 100% of the final sale price, with standard commission and processing fees waived.
-
Ecosystem Utility: FanCash earned from sales can be spent across Fanatics properties, including Fanatics Collect, Fanatics.com, Topps products, Fanatics Live breaks, memorabilia, and event tickets.
-
Scope and Limits: The program is currently restricted to U.S.-based sellers. Standard vault storage and fulfillment fees still apply, though there is no cap on total FanCash earnings.

Strategic Rationale
According to Fanatics Collect CEO Nick Bell, the policy shift was driven by internal data showing that marketplace buyers and sellers are overwhelmingly the same individuals. Rather than treating a sale as a final exit from the platform, the program targets collectors who systematically trade up or reallocate capital.
“The cyclical world and the trade-up kind of nature of the hobby just lends itself very well to the ability to sell and buy,” Bell explained. “As your personal collection changes direction or shape over time… you’re constantly adjusting your collection and thinking about where you want to go next”.
By eliminating cash-out fees, Fanatics effectively creates a closed-loop economy where collectors retain full trade value, provided that value remains within the Fanatics ecosystem.
The Bottom Line Trade-Off
Eliminating transaction fees removes a major revenue stream for Fanatics Collect, a move Bell openly frames as a long-term customer retention bet over short-term monetization.
“Any sane person or CFO would tell you that eradicating fees is probably not good for the bottom line,” Bell admitted. “But from our point of view, if we focus on building long-term relationships and improving the collector experience, then the business will follow”.
The initiative aligns with recent operational efforts to reduce friction across the platform, including tightening vault shipping turnarounds to 24–48 hours. While initial rollout is limited to North America due to local FanCash availability, Bell noted that international expansion remains on the long-term roadmap as the rewards infrastructure expands.
